Pardon my week and a half of no posts! I have been a busy bee working on Faber-Castell yumminess, EK Success Halloween projects (I know, it's JUNE, right!?) and getting new product ready for the shop. Fun stuff!

Here's a sneak of what's going up over at the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft blog next week. I'm loving all these Mix & Match packs!!

Be sure to check out the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft blog next week for the finished project and a full tutorial. It's gonna be good!

Well that's all for today!
Have a great weekend, friends!

This weekend I got a yummy box of goodies from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft and I. AM. IN. LOVE.
They sent some of the new Mix & Match packs and I love how it's like, "Hi. We are a series of totally different products that pair perfectly together. Use us. Try us out. Give us a go around. You will love us."

They were right. I love this little opportunity to experiment with some schtuff that I've never used much before. The coolest part is being able to pull from my stash of acrylic paints, mediums, and scrappy scraps and making something that had no rhyme or reason. It just is what it is.

I decided the first thing I wanted to do was to play in my art journal, which let's face it, is sorely neglected.
So I laid down some Aquarelles and Gelatos for some basic color, then went over the top with a layer of gel medium and pattern tissue to get some fun texture. I squirted a dab of white acrylic paint over the tissue, and scraped it down with a playing card. Then I added just a couple pieces of ephemera and coated them with more gel medium.

After I decided I was happy with the basic shapes I had laid down, I decided to add some texture and dimension with a few stamps. I used my black Stamper's Big Brush Pen directly onto the stamp and smashed that baby down!

See those black wrinkly crinkly yummy lines? Those are made using a black Gelato with no water added. Just go straight over the texture you made with the tissue, using some pretty light pressure and let them sit for a couple minutes to dry up a little. If you add water, prepare for some bleeding!

I also added some more color around the page using more Stamper's Big Brush pens and blending with my finger.

I found that I was close to having an empty bottle of gem medium, so I added some pearl pen to it to spread it out, and it made the most awesome pearly surface that worked so well to add lots of layers to the page. TRY IT!

The end result is actually probably still a work in progress. I'm thinking I might add a tiny photo to the top right side of the page with maybe some more embellishment. I dunno. So for now I just look at it and love it.

That heart just makes me smile. I love that the next day my finger is still a little black and pink from making that heart. And I love that there is so much "history" in that heart with the 82,000 layers of ink that I laid down.
Remember, if at first you don't absolutely LOVE it, just go over it some more. Blend blend blend!

Happy Monday!

Have I told you about my new love? It's true. I have a love that defies logic. He follows my every command. He travels with me. He is so well behaved I can hardly tell he's there. But when I need him, he's always there!

Yes, my little Cameo is so precious to me, and I have been having tons of fun with this little guy. We've made snowflakes for SRM's summer CHA workshop, bowling league shirts for a friend, applique pillows and tea towels, and now my most favorite project yet - my pantry jars!!

I is a happy girrrrrrrllllll.
Have a great weekend!

Congratulations to disney@heart!! Mrs. Donna White, you are the winner of the $10 credit to my Etsy shop!!
Leave your email address here as a comment, or send me an email to so that I can get you your shop credit code.

Have fun shopping!!

In other news, I just wanted to share a mini album that I made last week for my sis's upcoming wedding. I just happened to stumble on this adorable line from Colorbok at Jo-Ann's that coordinates perfect with the colors she's chosen and had to buy one of everything! It helped that they were having a 50% off sale!!

So here's the first little bit of scrapping I've done in almost two years that is totally for myself, with papers and embellies that I chose because I love them, with no specificity or requirements at all other than what I put on myself. LOVE IT!!

This month is the start of the year-long planning that will lead up to her June 2013 wedding and I figured we'd all need places to put ideas, quotes, pictures, and just generally commemorate the process of gettin' this girl hitched. If you know me, you know that my wedding was sort of a last-minute, teeny tiny kind of thing. Which is exactly how we wanted it. But now I get to help with all kinds of fun, girly, romantic, mushy stuff and I'm lovin' it!

Happy Monday!

Can I just say that it's been a crazy busy amazing week!? I have been working a ton with my rental littles (I am a sitter a couple of days a week) and it has been super fun! They have so much energy and it's totally getting me geared up to have some littles of our own. Currently, the baby is cooing and the older brother is counting his Matchbox cars. "One, two, three, six..." It's hilarious.

Thanks so much for all your sweet words this week - it has been great getting back into the swing of things. I feel so excited and optimistic about where things are going in this little bloggy land of mine. And honestly, the biggest part of this is because I just don't care about how any of this is perceived, as harsh as that may sound. I am blogging for me, for Eric though he probably doesn't know he cares about all of this now, and for our future kids to be able to have a glimpse of what our life is like now. Of course I love being able to make new friendships with anyone who stumbles over here, and I appreciate all the comments and feedback, I really really do. But the bottom line is that I have to be doing this for the right reasons if I'm going to be able to keep doing this successfully. And part of the success of this blog - the biggest part, really - is that I keep enjoying the process. That I don't let this become just another job that I am more often than not burned out by, as I was in January.

And because this is MY space, to record MY thoughts and feelings, I feel I can say that I after one week of blogging on my own terms, and having had this last six months to reorganize and re-prioritize, I am happy. I no longer feel that I need this team or that team to make me legitimate in the scrappy industry. I tried for a long time, was lucky enough to be on some great teams, and for the most part loved all of it. But the exceptions to all the loving it were pretty big exceptions. I overcommitted myself and stretched myself way too thin in order to get as much exposure as possible, and while that is exactly what was necessary to get where I am now, and I don't regret it, it was definitely the cause of a lot of unnecessary stress.

And so it is with a little hesitation that I entertained the idea of what my Good News Friday is all about. I mean, I sorta have things exactly how I need them to be right now. I work with EK Success, and create SRM's CHA workshops. I get paid to do that, and that works nicely. I can't tell you how depressing it is to look in my album these days and realize that not a single page has been added that wasn't for a DT commitment. And I hope there's no misunderstanding - I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to DTs, and generally enjoy the work that I did for them, but it's a totally different ballgame when you're using someone else's list of required paper, embellies, tools, and ideas. There is nothing quite as enjoyable to me as sitting down, choosing a photo, and going to town. Using whatever paper lines I want, as many embellies as I want, with no obligation to push any certain product or technique. I think my best work happens when I have the freedom to scrap according to my own set of guidelines. And that's a pretty small set. So I hesitate to get back into the game of limiting myself to what others want me to use.

But this next chapter is going to be great, I think. This next chapter is about working with some new people, some new products, and having the freedom to do whatever I want with those products. YAAY!

So for three months, starting July 1st, I will be working for Faber-Castell's Design Memory Craft line of artist's tools as a Guest Designer!! I am so excited to be able to work with a line that will help to stretch me as an artist. It still feels weird to call myself that...

So be sure to check back for some great projects, products, and ideas in the next few months. It's going to be a fun ride!!

Oh, and for those of you who haven't entered, don't forget that tonight is the deadline to enter to win a $10 credit to my Etsy shop! Just leave a comment here! This runs until midnight tonight, and I'll announce a winner on Monday!

So I think I mentioned that I work with EK Success, didn't I?
Well, I wanted to do a little tribute here because this month they debuted their all-new Spotted Canary website! And it's full of all kinds of good stuff, like message board and gallery and shopping and classes and tons of other inspiring and crafty schtuff!

My little box of giddy that arrives at my front door announcing that I will be busy for the next several days!
Each month I get a new assignment sheet that is full of unique challenges that may or may not be just up my alley, but always prove to be worth the effort. Either it's EXACTLY what I want to do, or it makes me stretch as a designer. And both are equally rewarding. Also rewarding is all the awesomeness packed inside my box of goodies every time it arrives!
In case you don't know, EK Success makes about a million different brands, including K&Company, Inkadinkado, Jolee's, EK Tools, Laliberi and Martha Stewart, to name a few. I work with everything except Martha, because she's got her own little crafty bunch who do their own thang.

A snippet of the last box of goodies. Can we say SMASH*!?!
My all-time favorite to work with is SMASH! I mean, there's not limit to what you can do with all the amazing pieces in the product line. I will be working on a wedding SMASH Book that will be revealed over time, starting from engagement all the way through to the wedding day. It will be premiering on the site soon!!

Some of my work is on The Spotted  Canary site as well as the brand sites. Each brand site has a ton of project ideas and inspiration by EK designers and The Spotted Canary showcases projects individually as well as posting each of them to our Craft Spots.

Be sure to register and take part in all the Independence Day fun that they have posted up in the creative gallery all month long in order to help you get ready for a fabulous 4th!

Happy Monday!

Welcome back, friends! Has it really been two and a half MONTHS since my last post?!? Jeeeeeezzzzzz!!! Time has flown by crazy fast these last six months of my blogcation and it has been FULL of progress.

It was definitely hard to distance myself from my little corner here, but I am so glad that I made the decision to focus on getting things accomplished here in countrybumpkinville. We took on a whole lot when we bought this place and it requires our constant attention if we want to bring it to its full potential. And let me tell you, there's a whole lotta potential. A whole lotta potential and not enough hours in the day or money in the bank to handle all at once!

We moved in to 4' weeds. Though I have to say, I LOVE this photo - it almost makes the weeds pretty. Which is an asinine thought when you've actually dealt with them. I can't believe I even said that...

We have been so lucky to be able to take on and complete most of the projects ourselves with the help of our families (you know who you are) and things have changed so much! When we bought this place in August of 2010, there was a laundry list of repairs that needed to be made just to make it livable. After about a month of hard work, we were able to walk on new carpet, bordered by new walls with fresh paint and shiny white baseboards. Higher ceilings, an awesome pantry and new kitchen, and even a new studio for me!

After that, Eric moved on to the shop, and by shop I mean horse barn that he ripped apart to make into a pretty awesome workspace for himself. A year and a half later he finished that and it's a good thing, too, because this little girl had a whole list of projects to tackle back at the house. Not that I nagged or anything...

Did I mention that we are on five acres?

Yep, that's us. The house is the yellow and the barn is the blue. And all the rest is the bain of our existance.
I mean, five acres of weeds, dirt, ramshackle outbuildings, and wasps that needed dealing with. I would say half of the green you see in that picture up there are palm trees that happen to be my least favorite thing in the world, so needless to say, they have since been yanked out, chopped up, and burned. Not to mention the 82,000 storage containers that we are letting our neighbor store "temporarily" on the back part of the property that aren't in the picture, or the random farm animals that keep wandering into the backyard. So it's a lot. A lot of projects that were staring at us in January, demanding that we get back to work immediately!

Plus there was the whole inside of the house that still looked like we had just moved in.

Just a smattering of the schtuff I've been up to...
So I've sewn, painted, repainted, built, cleaned, organized, crafted and furniture-shopped my heart out for the last six months to get as  much accomplished as possible. Of course I also took some time to enjoy the new kitchen, made up a bunch of fun stuff with my mamala to sell at a craft fair, and even got in some quality Izzy time.

Of course, the sewing, painting, repainting, building, organizing, crafting, and furniture-shopping wasn't all that I did these last six months. No no, not at all. I also took on a new job as a nanny, work one day a week for my husband's company, have continued to work for EK Success, and have been designing SRM's Summer CHA workshop. AAAAANNNNDDDD, like crazy people, my mom and I started working on a new business that we'll be unveiling early next year. We're nuts.

Oh, and guess what else?

My Etsy shop.... IS OPEN!!!

I've been procrastinating for so long getting things made and posted in my shop, and I finally have it all done. Well, at least I have it started. Lots more to get added soon. Yaaay!
